adidas SPIDER / middle distance spike
footwear design | 24 june 2010
SPIDER is filling up the MD gap in adidas entry T&F range. I designed this model last year, the process was quite exciting since Spider's direction changed few times.
Spikes are the most challenging but the same time rewarding type of shoes to design. I love to work on T&F because every piece has to be functional. And to see athletes wearing them always makes me happy and sometimes... maybe even proud a bit.

F50 - this shoe is iconic
footwear design | 12 june 2010
I was watching Argentina - Nigeria game today. Messi wasn't lucky with scoring but the shoe he was wearing is revolutionary. From time to time I'm jealous of someone else's work and here I definitely am. Good job Jay.
It's super lightweight, it's innovative and it's beautiful.
Small note to the video... No way they last the forefoot of every shoe by hand!

ARS SUTORIA shoes - OXFORD
footwear design | 25 april 2010
During the last weeks of prototyping course 3 shoes were designed and made. This
OXFORD
is one of them. Last and the sole was given so there wasn't that much choice. I'm quite happy with the result though. Modern take on classic design with an elastic, fake lace hole and a bit of color. Bartie style.
I used to design these type of shoes long time ago when I worked with
gino rossi
.

adidas adiSTAR SOLUTION
footwear design | 19 april 2010
This is one of my first models launched this year. I designed it in 2009 taking inspiration from adiZero Aegis. The idea for this shoe was to offer stability without extra second density elements on medial side. Only by tooling geometry and proper midsole components. adiSTAR Solution has stretchy panel between the stripes for better torsionbilty and to improve the fit. New upper construction with open see-through mesh and suede underlays.

ARS SUTORIA final feedback
footwear design | 15 april 2010
When I was deciding to take part in this 3 months course last year I looked everywhere for some opinions. I couldn't find many. So I hope these few words will be somehow helpful...
Short feedback is this - if my son has an interest in shoes when he grows up I will send him there for sure.

HIGH HEEL SANDAL - part 2
footwear design | 25 march 2010
Sandal is finished. It is only a looksee prototype so no sole attached. If there is one girl out there who likes it let me know ;)
I designed so many shoes but it's the first time in my life when I can put my name on it. Strange feeling.

HIGH HEEL SANDAL - part 1
footwear design | 11 march 2010
It's hard to believe but I'm making W's sandal prototype. I found it quite challenging and exciting the same time after being so specialized in functional sport shoes. But that was the plan - try to learn something different.
I've decided to make the classic approach with the right materials, some asymmetry and subtle pop of color. Very bartie like. Well, as Richard said (Ars Sutoria teacher) - you should design shoes you want your girlfriend to wear ;)

THINK FIRST
footwear design | 17 february 2010
Do you think you have to be an expert in sketching to become a designer? The most common question I'm being asked by young designers is this: "which program did you use for your renderings?" And I would say... my brain.

ARS SUTORIA 2
footwear design | 10 february 2010
Few more notes about the school after finishing the first month.
Course is very intense. No wasting of time. You go one shoe by the other, making sometimes 4 models per day. But what does it really mean "making" a shoe at Ars...

10 YEARS
footwear design | 14 december 2009
I heard that if you want to be successful in something you have to be the best in the world at it.
Well, being the best takes time and 10 years isn't really enough.
There is always so much to learn and so much to improve. At least I hope I'm on the right track.
2010 - a big year for me. I will take part in Ars Sutoria shoe course in Milan, I will celebrate 10 year anniversary with the design exhibition, I will work again as independent designer and as you can see I'm starting a SHOE BLOG.
This blog will be focused on shoes. So if you are footwear designer or... a wonnabe footwear designer... or a runner... or simply you have "
Otaku
" with shoes please join.
