I met this guy when working at adidas, afterwards I couldn't stop thinking how little I know as a shoe designer. I have left the brand and went to Ars Sutoria school to learn pattern and shoe making. It gives confidence to know things like this. It's not just sketching any more.

ECCO is known for it's comfort, quality as well as Biom range of shoes. This one here, called EVO Racer is the 2nd generation of running BIOMs. It was very challenging project but end up to be one of my best and most technical designs. I'm quite proud of it.

Another new concept, this time from Puma. I can't wait to get the shoe as the story seems quite interesting. It's new at least. I like the cat paw inspiration...

I like how after all these years of "stagnation" in athletic footwear there are some unbelievable concepts put on the market lately. This Reebok shoe is a good example of what I call CRAZYLOOK'NSHOE range. It is truly unexpected.

I don't know yet whether it's a good running shoe or no but for sure design is bold and outstanding. Not bad, not bad.

My very first ECCO shoes from AW12 collection are in stores now. It was my first season and I did enjoy working on more casual and less technical products for a change. More detailed explanation and photos of each shoe will follow later. For now just few pictures from the marketing campaign in Iceland. |

| This is inspiring. I still believe the biggest revolution in shoemaking is yet to come and we are not that far from it. When I watch objects like this and I know these are just models, I can see shoes being produced this way. Without stitching, workers and all the pattern making. 3D printing, 3D injecting or 3D knitting. Production can be located anywhere... Europe, US. Lets see...

What makes the performance shoes... performance? Where is the border line between functional sport shoes and the lifestyle ones? Who says ballet shoes are not performance shoes?

I'm constantly impressed with Nike ability to challenge the status quo in footwear. Almost every two years we have a new innovation... this time FlyKnit. Fantastic video, great concept.

ISPO outdoor fair in Munich, one of my favorites. Mostly functional products, not to much fashion and lot to see. For some strange reason designers are not very welcome ;)

Andreas Gursky is the highest-priced photographer alive. I'm not sure if his photographs are worth the money but what I really like is this type of perspective. For example, this particular photo above makes me think that sport shoes are very "kitschy" objects and frankly speaking they are all the same. It was enough to zoom out to make me think this way. There is one more question that pops up in my mind when I look at this picture - why are we making all these shoes?

It's been a while since we had a year like this. There were so many great products lunched in 2011 and I have to admit a lot of the hotness was coming from US running brands. Brooks Pure collection is a great example. Minimalistic, outstanding and well designed.

Big news found on Los Angeles Times page. Reebok is to pay $25 million to the owners of Easy Tone shoes as part of the agreement with Federal Trade Commission. The company is prohibited from making health
claims about the toning shoes "unless the claims are
true and backed by scientific evidence." |

Nike innovation studio, a very secret video ;) The truth is - pressing, not stitching is the future of shoe-making. At lest for the performance shoes. I like the idea with the overlapping colors.

Good link to share today. Fantastic free online trail magazine (only in German) - trailmagazin.de. Lots of inspiring photos like the one above (by martin paldan) and wide tests of trail footwear. Print version should be out end of September.
