ISPO outdoor fair in Munich, one of my favorites. Mostly functional products, not to much fashion and lot to see. For some strange reason designers are not very welcome ;)

Andreas Gursky is the highest-priced photographer alive. I'm not sure if his photographs are worth the money but what I really like is this type of perspective. For example, this particular photo above makes me think that sport shoes are very "kitschy" objects and frankly speaking they are all the same. It was enough to zoom out to make me think this way. There is one more question that pops up in my mind when I look at this picture - why are we doing all this shoes?

It's been a while since we had a year like this. There were so many great products lunched in 2011 and I have to admit a lot of the hotness was coming from US running brands. Brooks Pure collection is a great example. Minimalistic, outstanding and well designed.

Big news found on Los Angeles Times page. Reebok is to pay $25 million to the owners of Easy Tone shoes as part of the agreement with Federal Trade Commission. The company is prohibited from making health
claims about the toning shoes "unless the claims are
true and backed by scientific evidence." |

Nike innovation studio, a very secret video ;) The truth is - pressing, not stitching is the future of shoe-making. At lest for the performance shoes. I like the idea with the overlapping colors.

Good link to share today. Fantastic free online trail magazine (only in German) - trailmagazin.de. Lots of inspiring photos like the one above (by martin paldan) and wide tests of trail footwear. Print version should be out end of September.

New Balance has recently came with new minimalistic range of shoes called - MINIMUS. There is a road shoe, lifestyle shoe and the trail one. First two are not so good but the off-road one is truly outstanding. I had a chance to test this model and no doubt it is one of the best fitting running shoes on the market.

I took these photos during my last development trip in Portugal and it was probably one of the best trips I had. It is so unusual these days to work on shoe revisions in Europe - only 3 hours flight, highly skilled people and beautiful location.

I must admit NIKE has presented couple important innovations over last few seasons. Starting from Lunar foam, through flywire up to the new level of seamless upper constructions. Especially the last one seems quite revolutionary because it effects not only the look but the way shoes are produced as well.

The 3rd generation of the adiSTAR RIDE was my last model designed at adidas and probably the most "sophisticated" in terms of design of all my running shoes. The final design was born with the big contribution from Ben, a category designer. My true mentor who showed me how to design running shoes.

This idea could actually work... heel - forefoot transition might be an issue but it's still good conceptual design. The rest of the videos are pretty funny too, take a look here.

United Nude is one of those great brands that has only remarkable products in its range. Each one of them is unique and visually innovative. You wont find flowers or sparkling stones on these shoes but there is always something outstanding in terms of design. UN was found by Dutch architect Rem D Koolhaas and seventh generation shoemaker Galahad Clark. Good team, good brand, good shoes.

This is my third Response Cushion after 17th and 18th versions. Still on the market since mid 2010. It's build on the same bottom as its predecessor but the difference is - it's a compression EVA, so it gives a bit softer ride. Upper has engineered flex zone and it's probably the best fitting Response Cushion so far.
