Natural running is getting a lot of attention lately. But what does it really mean to run Natural? Which products really help you to run that way and which are mostly marketing stories...
Well, just like on this photo. Some things might only seem Natural.
So, here is my humble opinion about this trend.

During the last weeks of prototyping course 3 shoes were designed and made. This OXFORD is one of them. Last and the sole was given so there wasn't that much choice. I'm quite happy with the result though. Modern take on classic design with an elastic, fake lace hole and a bit of color. Bartie style.
I used to design these type of shoes long time ago when I worked with gino rossi.

This is one of my first models launched this year. I designed it in 2009 taking inspiration from adiZero Aegis. The idea for this shoe was to offer stability without extra second density elements on medial side. Only by tooling geometry and proper midsole components. adiSTAR Solution has stretchy panel between the stripes for better torsionbilty and to improve the fit. New upper construction with open see-through mesh and suede underlays.

When I was deciding to take part in this 3 months course last year I looked everywhere for some opinions. I couldn't find many. So I hope these few words will be somehow helpful...
Short feedback is this - if my son has an interest in shoes when he grows up I will send him there for sure.

Sandal is finished. It is only a looksee prototype so no sole attached. If there is one girl out there who likes it let me know ;)
I designed so many shoes but it's the first time in my life when I can put my name on it. Strange feeling.

I was very jealous watching half marathon race in Milan today. I haven't been running the whole winter and now it's time to start training again. It was bit rainy however Kenyans finished with decent results... Moses Mosop Cheruyot (59'20") and Jane Kiptoo Jepkosgei (1.09'52").

Shoes, shoes, shoes... here are few photos I took in Bologna. Boutique's windows with spring-summer 2010 collections. These type of shoes are not area of my expertise but when you are in Italy point of view can change. So lets say... I'm working to improve my weak points ;)

I had a chance to see Bologna this week. Only 2 hours walk in the morning so very brief visit. Place is beautiful, pity I couldn't stay longer. Bologna has the oldest University in the Western world, was named European Capital of Culture in 2000 and of course.. for all the shoe people - has Lineapelle, shoe materials and components fair.

It's hard to believe but I'm making W's sandal prototype. I found it quite challenging and exciting the same time after being so specialized in functional sport shoes. But that was the plan - try to learn something different.
I've decided to make the classic approach with the right materials, some asymmetry and subtle pop of color. Very bartie like. Well, as Richard said (Ars Sutoria teacher) - you should design shoes you want your girlfriend to wear ;)

Beautiful place. It's not that far from Milan. Perfect destination for one day trip. City has typical Italian character, with big open squares and astonishing architecture. What's more it's very quiet there… old part of the town is closed for cars and it makes a big difference compared to Milan for example.

Do you think you have to be an expert in sketching to become a designer? The most common question I'm being asked by young designers is this: "which program did you use for your renderings?" And I would say... my brain.

Few more notes about the school after finishing the first month.
Course is very intense. No wasting of time. You go one shoe by the other, making sometimes 4 models per day. But what does it really mean "making" a shoe at Ars...

W's adiSTAR RIDE 2 has similar design language as M's but it was modified based on the specific needs of female consumer.
