GOOD DESIGN just design | 15 may 2010 Producers need designers for only one reason - to create products that sell better. Sometimes but not often they want to make a statement (to sell better afterwards). Then they let the designer come up with something unique and remarkable. But why not making all the products outstanding? Simply, because something outstanding you cannot sell to everyone. People want things that they are comfortable with, that don't make them look weird or too different. Why mobile phones all look alike, why most of the man shoes are black and brown, why the best selling car ever is Corolla with over 32 millions produced so far? The big problem is that designers, artists (and kids) have different taste then majority of people. So if we have the freedom we often make products for ourselves. And they cool, they always cooI... for us. So what is the GOOD DESIGN that would work for the designer, the producer and the consumer? Of course it depends on the target consumer, the client need, price point and many other things but general rule is this: MAKE SOMETHING FAMILIAR NEW... AND SOMETHING NEW FAMILIAR.
