Few more notes about the school after finishing the first month.
Course is very intense. No wasting of time. You go one shoe by the other, making sometimes 4 models per day. But what does it really mean "making" a shoe at Ars... |
well, it means you learn how to design and prepare for the production many different type of shoes. The first month covered: Derby (M,W), Oxford (M,W), Pumps, Ballerinas and T-Bars.
You basically learn what each of these models is about and then you work by yourself on the shell pattern making it in paper. The idea is that if your paper bootie fits the last well and doesn't break the leather wont neither. It saves time and prototyping costs. It's smart.
Ars Sutoria is a school with 60 years experience. Over the years they developed pattern making process based on proper Base springs and paper testing. This system developed by A. Lunati is quite popular in Italy and very precise. It definitely feels like you are learning some unique knowledge. Speaking of learning... teachers are absolutely the best assets of this school. Amazing experience, true passion for shoes and they speak better English then I do.
